Team Leisuretec at Martin Audio Open Day!

Posted on: 14th September 2023

The Leisuretec team attended Martin Audio's open day on the 8th of September.  Martin Audio's open day consisted of speaker range demonstrations from the FlexPoint, O-Line, Wavefront, TORUS and TH speakers and line arrays as well as an Optimal Audio zonal demonstration and a guest speaker.

The day started with running us through the different ranges of speakers Martin Audio has to offer starting with the install-friendly Adorn Pendant speakers and ending with the Wavefront Line-Array systems. The demos even featured their latest releases, the FlexPoint Series, and the compact yet powerful THS 3-way speaker designed for high output in a compact cabinet. One of the notable demos came from the FP4 – the smallest speaker in the FlexPoint series, this small 4” speaker really packed a punch and with just the two playing, easily filled the whole room with sound. Another stand-out demonstration came from the brand-new THS speaker, it was so powerful it felt like you could feel the sound waves going past – really impressive!

Following the speaker demonstrations we were then introduced to the whole Optimal Audio range, which included their Zone controllers, ceiling speakers, compact subwoofers and their full range of surface mount speakers, including the latest additions, the Cuboid 6 & 6TX. With this demonstration, they gave us a tour of a multipurpose venue “The Optimal”, which showcased the features of the Zone controller and how easy an Optimal Audio system can be to control.

Later in the day, sound designer Simon Honywill shared insights into the use of Martin Audio speakers at the renowned Glastonbury festival, explaining why Martin Audio has been the go-to brand for the festival's main stage, the Pyramid Stage, since 2008. We were shown the history of the Martin Audio array systems on the Pyramid Stage, starting with the W8L Longbow, moving onto the MLA and now, most recently, the Wavefront WPL array.

We were then shown the Pyramid Stage systems built in their DISPLAY 3 software, giving us a visual representation of how the sound travels throughout the area at the festival. (DISPLAY 3 is Martin Audio’s latest system design and prediction software that displays your live and install projects in a 3D environment, allowing users to get a visual depiction of the sound coverage of a system) The DISPLAY 3 software also allows users to edit the topology of the environment to exactly match the area you a spec’ing for, allowing for the most precise environment as possible.

Fun fact: did you know that from the start of the Pyramid Stage to the end of the boundary, there is about a 13-metre difference in height.

The day concluded with a brief tour of the factory and office spaces and then we said our goodbyes! It was a really interesting day out, it’s not every day you get to listen to such high-powered speakers and line-arrays and the added bonus of getting to listen to all the technical information and insights from the Martin Audio team was really beneficial, especially for our technical team!

We would like to say thanks to all the Martin Audio team that made this event possible, we’ll see you in the next one!
