Sennheiser EW-DX Wireless Mic System - Full Features & Applications

Posted on: 25th September 2023

Welcome back to Product Profile, today we’re walking you through everything you need to know about the Sennheiser EW-DX wireless microphone system. So, without hesitation, let's dive into the features, technical aspects, and endless possibilities this system has to offer.

The Future of Wireless is Here

Sennheiser’s EW-DX represents the pinnacle of digital wireless technology, the most adaptable system ever designed by Sennheiser. Whether you're hosting university lectures, corporate meetings, live performances, or broadcasting events, EW-DX ensures peak performance every single time. Now let’s look at how the EW-DX fits into the Sennheiser Evolution wireless family.

The EW-D Family

The EW-DX sits above the EW-D range in terms of the wireless system hierarchy, expanding on what is already an industry-leading product range.

The main difference between the two ranges is with EW-DX you now have the ability to fit 2 channels into a compact half rack space, meaning you have more flexibility when space might be limited. The power of the EW-DX is also amplified with the option of integrated Dante in the EM2 Dual receiver. This is also a feature in the brand-new full 1U quad receiver, unlocking huge potential when scaling your system.

Truly Simplified Workflow

One of the hallmarks of the EW-DX system is its truly simplified workflow. Setting up and monitoring your wireless audio has never been easier. With the press of a button, Auto Scan automatically assigns channels, utilising an equidistant tuning grid, ensuring reliable channels without intermodulation interference.

You can also take control of the system from your mobile device using the Sennheiser Smart Assist app or utilise advanced software options like the Sennheiser Control Cockpit and Wireless Systems Manager (WSM) for a detailed system view in complex, networked environments. Click the link below to learn more about the Sennheiser Smart Assist App.

Ready to Scale, Ready to Deliver

EW-DX is a system that evolves with you. Choose from multiple hardware options, such as the 2-channel half-rack or 4-channel full-rack receivers, allowing you to right-size your setup based on your current needs while keeping expansion options open for the future. With Dante network audio, Ethernet control ports, and AES-256 encryption, EW-DX can be securely transmitted and integrated into IT networks, providing flexibility as your requirements change.

You even have the option to pack even more channels in a dedicated space with Link Density Mode. In standard mode with an equidistant frequency spacing of 600 kHz the EW-DX accommodates up to 146 links within its switching bandwidth. In Link Density Mode this increases to up to 293 frequencies at 300 kHz of spacing. Despite this huge increase in frequencies, this only equates to an approximate 10% loss in the range.

Rock-Solid Digital Audio Throughout

Quality and reliability are the hallmarks of all Sennheiser products, and the EW-DX system is no exception. With digital UHF transmission, wide dynamic range, and ultra-low latency, you can expect outstanding audio quality from capsule input to system output. Sennheiser's proprietary SePac audio codec and new conversion technology ensure unparalleled audio transparency. Intelligent Switching Diversity, an advancement in RF technology, guarantees stable transmission without audible artefacts. With features like in-device charging, 12-hour battery operation, and switching bandwidth up to 88 MHz, the EW-DX system is the right tool for the job.

Versatile and Scalable Microphone System

The EW-DX system is a truly versatile microphone system that adapts to your professional requirements. Whether you're conducting university lectures, corporate meetings, or managing complex cross-campus installations, EW-DX delivers peak performance in every scenario. Integration with the Sennheiser Control Cockpit and third-party applications allows for effortless remote monitoring and control, ensuring a seamless operation from a single meeting room to a sophisticated multi-location setup.

Reliable System in Any Environment

When it comes to crucial speech and content, reliability is paramount. The EW-DX system boasts an advanced feature set in a world-renowned durable Sennheiser design, ensuring a reliable tool for critical moments. Robust digital RF links guarantee a stable and artefact-free connection, while AES-256 encryption allows for secure transmission of confidential content.

Simple to Install and Easy to Monitor

The installation and monitoring process couldn't be simpler with the EW-DX system. Designed for both simple setups and advanced installations, Dante-enabled EW-DX systems seamlessly integrate into any existing Dante network. The impressive 134 dB of dynamic range eliminates the need for sensitivity adjustments. The Sennheiser Control Cockpit empowers you to control settings and remotely monitor vital components, such as battery telemetry, across the entire EW-DX system.

A UHF System That Will Meet Your Ever-Changing Demands

EW-DX is an innovative wireless microphone system that adapts to your changing needs. Whether you're hosting in-person, online, or hybrid events, EW-DX is your reliable audio solution. Rechargeable components provide up to 12 hours of operating time, keeping your campus socially responsible. With AES-256 encryption for complete security, ultra-low latency of 1.9 ms for perfect speech intelligibility, and the ability to receive future feature updates via the Sennheiser Control Cockpit, EW-DX is always ready to evolve with you.
