Service Sound Transform Park House Secondary School
Service Sound is a well-established company dedicated to installing sound systems in venues such as schools and houses of worship. They’ve built their customer base on their excellent eye for detail, high level of quality, and ability to listen to the needs of every unique installation. One project for Park House Secondary School in Newbury required a new sound system for its main hall. After a detailed conversation, Service Sound designed a solution that would meet every specification, including an evenly distributed sound across the hall, with easy-to-use tech and high-quality output.
There were just three short weeks during the summer holidays to complete the job. Having built a strong relationship with Leisuretec over 17 years, Service Sound were able to get all the equipment quoted up, ordered and delivered in the same week, enabling them to keep to their tight timeframe. This included delivery of playback devices, digital mixers (Allen & Heath QU), Sennheiser SpeechLine mics, Electro-Voice Monitors, Crown amplifiers, DBX SMU, plus power distribution modules and speaker brackets. The following week was about specifying rack cabling and pre-loading panels, followed by the installation with the infrastructure completed a few days later.
To begin, this entailed a portable rack for the main control gear that could be patched at various points around the hall, making it easily accessible for the client to use. This fed a further wall-mounted permanent rack housing the amplification and SMU so Park House School could always have a ‘ready-to-go’ system. From here, four main passive Electro-Voice speakers were cabled in as a sound distribution system to upgrade from the school's previous equipment, which had been front-of-house-focused. This would help audiences hear clearly from either the front or back of the hall.
The main speakers were then complemented by a couple on stage, overhead-mounted and powered monitors for foldback and to act as front fill. Next came a couple of tasty subwoofers under the stage to bring the school performances to life!
The school now has a fully comprehensive system at its disposal, mixing traditional hard-wired analogue tie lines so the school can patch signals to where they need to go, with an up-to-date Bluetooth-connected media player and an app-controlled digital mixer. 'The school's very happy with the new comprehensive system,' says Service Sound Managing Director James Collins, 'and thanks to the relationship we have with Leisuretec they were a great source for equipment and a fast and professional turnaround.'
