Renfrew Transform Worship Experience with Martin Audio and Crown
Renfrew Network and Technical Services (RNTS), based in the West of Scotland, provide technical solutions for home and corporate installations, anything from hiring out stock to full production support for large events with audiences of 300-plus.
For one installation at Kilbarchan Parish Church, the challenge was to adapt the existing infrastructure to meet modern needs. The venue had an inadequate sound system that was struggling to deliver clear and balanced audio. Acoustic issues and outdated equipment resulted in poor sound quality and inconsistent coverage, leaving attendees straining to hear sermons, music, and other presentations. Ultimately, the set-up hindered the quality of worship experiences and community engagement.
Recognising the need for a comprehensive sound system upgrade, the church approached RNTS to deliver a suitable replacement. Their team of experienced audio engineers and designers collaborated closely with the church leadership to create and implement a state-of-the-art sound system tailored to the unique acoustics and needs of the sanctuary.
Based on an assessment of the building, the engineers devised a customised Martin Audio sound system design that included strategically positioned speakers and Crown XLS amplifiers. The design aimed to ensure even sound distribution and improve the quality of the live stream system.
High-quality audio equipment was chosen to meet the church's needs and future scalability. The selection process considered the aesthetics of the space while maximising performance. In this case, they chose Martin Audio’s CDD range, with a combination of 8”, 6.5” and 5” speakers in white, along with the matching hardware to mount them. These speakers surpassed their expectations and proved to be a good match to the rest of the building's colour scheme. In terms of amplification, 'we chose Crown XLS Series amplifiers, which pack a great punch in a very lightweight and easy-to-install amplifier,' explains RNTS Managing Director Greig Mitchell.
The installation team meticulously installed the equipment while considering the aesthetics and architectural elements of the church. Once completed, the sound system underwent precise calibration to optimise sound quality and coverage. Extensive testing and fine-tuning were carried out to ensure that the sound system met the church's goals, and adjustments were made to balance sound levels and address any remaining acoustic challenges.
Throughout, RNTS used Leisuretec as their primary supplier of PA and equipment. 'We have found their service to be exemplary, with their selection of products and pricing fair and competitive... For this installation, we purchased all the PA equipment from Leisuretec, including the speakers and amplifiers. Delivery was prompt, with the equipment arriving to us less than 24 hours later,” Greig adds. In addition, RNTS used Leisuretec for the production and hire side of their business, with the purchase of 16 new CHAUVET lights for their hire stock.
